The 2011 Reunion is now history

August 31, 2011

Addy emailed me the photos, and I am putting them up here.

No longer can we upload files to our googlegroups site, darn.  You can still download a zipped file of all the files on the site, for as long as they keep them.

Access is from the web page,

Lots going on

May 2, 2011

Sorry I have been Lax updating this page, but here it is for 2011.

Okay, so we will have the family reunion here at my house this year
(2331 Lakeshore Road 223, South Woodslee, Ontario  N0R1V0 in case you
want to map quest it.  I will send specific directions later if need
be.)  Because our yard is filled with farm equipment until the end of
July, the date I have selected will be August 13, 2011.

These are my thoughts to keep it simple for everyone:

1.    Everyone bring lawn chairs to sit on (I have plenty
of tables) I have chairs for people coming
from far away so don’t worry about traveling with
your lawn chairs!!  ha ha
2.    Everyone bring something to barbeque for their own
family (I have a giant charcoal barbeque as
well  as a gas barbeque)
3.    Everyone bring their own beverages.
4.    Everyone bring something for “pot luck” ie:
watermelon, chips, salads, whatever you have the
time for or can cross the border with, or can easily
pick up at a store. I will have lots of sweet
corn and tomatoes and condiments such as ketchup,
mustard, butter, etc.
5.   Andrea’s daughter Amelia has volunteered to plan some
games for the younger kids, as I do
not have a pool or much to do here.  I do have a tree
house with a very large slide.

Lets start a list of who has been contacted on here so that we make
sure we haven’t forgotten anyone.

To date I have contacted my sister Addy, Andrea’s family, including
Aunt Jean.  I will forward a copy of this to the people I have email
addresses for:  Pat, Laura, Susan, Renee, Michelle, Melissa, and of
course my other brothers and sister.

I hope that everyone  can make it.

Linda

Mike (my son) gave me some pictures with Uncle Joe in them, I have made them low res and am including them here.  If anyone wants a high res copy, send me an email and I will get one out.  These photos were taken summer 2010 at Mike & Chelsea’s wedding on PEI.

Have a great year everyone,

Joe

Quilt idea from Darlene

September 15, 2010

Wow, this sounds like a lot of work, but what a wonderful idea.

I will get her a picture of Mike & Louise, if anyone else has a nice one, send it.

If anyone has a photo of Harry & Lil, send it, she will need it to do the quilt.

From Darlene:

Joe,  I wanted to make a family quilt to raffle off at the 2011 reunion.  I wanted to put grandma and grandpa’s picture in the middle and a wedding picture of each one of their children’s weddings.  I have run into a snag.  Laura does not have a picture of Uncle Harry and Aunt Lil.  I can’t make the quilt without one.  Can you put this on the family web and possibly one of the aunt’s have one.  I am as going to call people.  I thought the proceeds of the quilt could go to a Canadian charity such as diabetes or cancer.  I also need one of your mom and dad.
You can email it to me joe@joeamelia.ca or go to the group email page (link on the sidebar) and upload a file.

Everyone get looking!!

Thanks Darlene.

this year’s is over

August 24, 2010

While we’re waiting for photos, here’s a note from Laura

Hello Everyone,
A fine time was had be all – and once again I would like to thank everyone who contributed food and their time.
Special mentions to:
Sue and Dan for bringing big tables and chairs that we used in the house when it was raining and her famous noodle salad.
Pat for bringing extra folding chairs which came in handy, and the delicious cake and veggy trays.
And a BIG THANK YOU to Lynda for coming the day before to set up and for bringing all her folding tables and chairs – that we used when it finally stopped raining- as well as her faboulous pasta and corn.  Linda and Rick also came on Sunday to help take everything down.
Also Lisa (Marleen’s daughter) was a big help in the kitchen- as was Marleen, Renee, Addy and Aunt Mel.
If I have missed anyone please do not take offence- it was an enjoyable but busy day for me.
I have  the interviews etc that Pat took-  on  a CD- unfortunately they have to run on a computer.  I will be making copies and sending one to each family.
ALSO- THE FOLLOWING THINGS WERE LEFT AT THE HOUSE A BLACK AND RED UMBRELLA- THE SAYS AMERICAN RED CROSS A TIMAX WATCH THAT WAS LEFT BY THE EDGE OF POOL AND A CORK SCREW and KNIFE THAT SAYS A&A Metal Cleaning and Stripping
Not that I minded having it at my house- but things were a little  too cozy in the house when it was raining and I was embarrassed that the men all were in our very messy garage.
So…in the hope that everyone will come next year- first, second and third
generations- we definetly need to plan for a bigger location for next year.
At the party- Linda mentioned that the Malden Community Centre has a hall with a kitchen as well as an outdoor pravillion.  A liqueur license can be obtained for 10 hours for the small fee of $50.00.
Hot dogs and hamburgers can be supplied for a fee of $10.00 per family.
Linda said there is a basket ball court and other such things as well.
Linda is going to look into dates and they will be posted.
So plan on coming and spread the word.

The Final Date, be there or be square!

July 1, 2010
This, from Laura:
The date of the family reunion for 2010 is Saturday, August 21st. Rain or shine.  We will a covering if rain is predicted.
Time: 2 o’clock
Place: 3446 Rankin Ave.  (I live three doors down from where my father use to live.)
If there is no parking on the road use the parking lot of Massey High School (1800 Liberty) to the left on the corner of LIberty and Rankin.
Phone: 519-966-7139
I would like to know who will be coming so I can plan for food and tables & chairs etc.
I would appreciate if you would either call or e-mail regarding which members of your family will be attending.
We have a pool so bring a suit and towel.
Food and Beverages
BYOB- pop and water will be provided.
We have fridges and a freezer in the garage should they be needed.
As everyone seems to want to bring something let’s start a list:
Laura
sausages/hot dogs or beef and chicken kabobs (Depends on how many are coming)
My fabulous dill dip and veggies
Entertainment
I have our family home movies which have been put on a DVD  which include a number of Amelia family get togethers and Trudy was kind enough to send me theirs which are also on DVDs.
I hope to set up the t.v. and player outside for everyone to watch them.
If you have some of your own please bring them.  We do have a VHS player that I think still works.  Someone will have to be in charge of fast forwarding through the boring parts.)
Interviews
My son Christopher will be taping whomever would like to share an interesting story. (He doesn’t know this yet but he will do it if he knows what is good for him.) Unfortunately this can not be able to be sent to all who want it over the internet but Chris can make copies here at the house before you leave hopefully.
If you have pictures you would like to share, we have a scanner and put them all on a DVD or post them on the family web site.
If there is room and the weather looks like it will good- there is a possibility of Susan and Dan’s very talented children coming to play and sing.
If anyone else has any suggestions please make them.

New file upload

June 2, 2010

Laura uploaded a new file, it is downloadable from the group email page.

Attached is a list of Amelia’s who came through Ellis Island during the time period our grandfather came.  I also have census records for that time period but there was only one I thought might be connected to us- others in the family may know more than I about our grandfather’s brothers and sisters.

thanks Laura!!

THE DATE AND PLACE ARE SET

May 6, 2010

The date is Saturday- August 21st, 2010- beginning at Hevenly Rest Cemetery at noon then on to my house at 1:00- so far only Addy and Janet have said they are coming- I said if we had more than my backyard could handle it would have to move it to park but as of yet that doesn’t seem to be a problem.

Make sure to let folks know if you are coming, Laura will post the addresses later.
